A quick history lesson.

So you are here, and you probably want to know a bit about us.

Firstly lets start with the name Amelix, where did it the name come from? Well it is a mish mash of our founder Louis Hurst’s two eldest children Amelia and Felix. Whilst we are talking about names HatHats is named after Louis and his wife Lisa’s youngest child (Hattie) she wasn’t born when Amelix was conceived.

Louis is a dynamic serial entrepreneur, proudly hailing from Canterbury, where he cultivated his passion for business from an early age. In 2008, he took a significant step by founding the Amelix Limited which has successfully established itself in the marketing, business advice and events sectors. Until June 2020, Amelix expanded its reach to include a Telecommunications arm, which was strategically sold to Radius Connect, allowing for further growth.

Over the years, Louis has honed his skills as an independent business consultant, dedicating himself to advising various organisations on fostering an entrepreneurial mindset and effectively scaling their operations. His commitment to excellence was recognized in 2015 when he was honored as a finalist in the KEiBA awards for ‘Entrepreneur of the Year.’ Demonstrating his leadership capabilities, Louis assembled a strong management team to oversee the daily operations of Amelix, enabling him to concentrate on nurturing and scaling HatHats Coffee Company. With that company now selling millions of drinks a year, Louis has focused on growing the group by partnering with ambitious hospitality brands bringing them into the Amelix group.

Louis is also the founder and chair of the HatHats Foundation, a grant giving charity which supports community projects around our portfolio of stores as welll as funds projects in the coffee growing developing world and he is often found lecturing on business growth and scale at various university’s and functions.

Who are we?

So, what do we actually do.  From where you’re clicking it may seem a bit odd that in the past we’ve had a telecom, marketing, bouncy castle, education and a coffee company all under one umbrella. We get that it’s not conventional. However, we’ve always been a group of companies that operate autonomously and share the same core values.

We’ve had a very varied past which has made us the innovative company that we are today. Now we’re focusing in our attention on growing hospitality brands we still have a very strong education business, Amelix Education and proud to be educating the next generation of entrepreneurs.

What if?

Still with us? To the outside world, the variety of what we do may seem eccentric or even odd. However, when you delve deeper, you will often find a link. Most of the businesses within the group started with a simple question.

‘What If?’

What if a coffee company could make a really ‘Good Cup of Coffee’? And ensure that every element of the business has a positive impact on the supply chain?

What if an education provider could give relevant workplace training to learners? What if it could teach skills that revolve around commercial understanding and employability?

What if a there was a company who could redefine vending and create an automatic retail business that cared and offered amazing services

What if we could build a collaborative group of businesses that operated autonomously but had the infrastructure of the big boys at its core.

Proud to be different.

As a group of companies, we are proud to be different. In 2014 we scrapped all targets from the group. We found them divisive and noticed that they bred lazy management. Instead, we decided to put our people at the centre of everything we do and gave them empowerment to make decisions.

We celebrate our successes in the same way we celebrate our mistakes. This allows us to learn, evolve and create without fear.

If you fancy a coffee, we’d love to sit down with you and tell you all about our story and the next chapters.

What we do Best

Thinking outside of the box

When we partner with a businesses we don’t just sit quietly on the sidelines. We have a team of neurodivergent passionate people who often think outside the box. We often like to think backwards and are known for some out there ideas.

Storytelling

You have the product, service or idea. Let us help you tell the story. We have found that many people in the hospitality world have focused on creating amazing products and services but are not always that great at telling the story of having it heard. Let us help!

Getting things done.

We are not silent investors. We believe in getting stuck in the trenches with you. We have a culture of everything starts with ‘Yes’ and our teams live by collaboration and working together. Whatever the task we dive right in with support, guidance and everyone is prepared to roll thier sleeves up and get stuck in.
